Community-proposed projects

Fruit trees in the woods

We are delighted that Cindy Sykes, along with a group of community members, has developed a proposal to plant several fruit trees in a clearing in the woods.

The fruit trees will be planted in such a way as to conserve the ‘wild’ feeling of the woods and will be managed by volunteers. There is potential for educational events around the fruit trees and, once they are established, for community events such as apple harvesting days.

What stage is this project at?

After being carefully considered by the Trustees to ensure that it fits with the aims of our woods, and has support from the community, this project has been given the go ahead. The planting will be happening later this year. We are working with Yester Primary school children to undertake biodiversity surveys in the area prior to planting.
